SoundCloudの経営難が大きな話題となっているが、Chance the Rapperがそれに反応するツイートをしている。

SoundCloudのことで、取り組んでいる
ツイートはこれのみで、続報はないが彼は何らかのアクションをしているようだ。

米ヒップホップメディアCOMPLEXはこのツイートを“Chance the Rapper May Have a Plan to Rescue SoundCloud From Rumored Collapse（Chance the RapperはSoundCloudを崩壊から救う計画をもっているかもしれない）”という見出しで紹介した。
インディペンデントで活動することに強い意思をもっているChance the Rapperは作品を販売せず、無料でダウンロード/ストリーミング配信してきた。そうした活動の結果、最新アルバムColoring Bookはストリーミング配信のみでリリースされた作品として初めて全米チャートにランクインした。グラミー賞では最優秀新人賞、最優秀ラップアルバム賞、最優秀ラップパフォーマンス賞を受賞するという快挙もなしとげた。彼はもちろんSoundCloudのユーザー。彼のアカウントにはColoring Bookのほか、多数の楽曲がアップされている。
Chance the Rapperは昨年RapperRadio.comというプロジェクトをスタートさせている。これは、ラジオ局にアプローチする手段のないアーティストたちの楽曲をラジオ局にTwitter経由でリクエストできるというサービス。

このように知恵と実行力をもつChance the Rapperだけに、SoundCloudの件もどうにかしてくれるのではと期待してしまう。
以前から経営難が伝えられていたSoundCloudは、先週40%の社員をレイオフ、サンフランシスコとロンドンのオフィスを閉鎖した。先日、全社員にレイオフの理由を説明したと報じられている。
しかしベルリン本社からビデオキャストが放映される際、世界中のSoundCloudの会議室には警備員が溢れており、社員は望んでいた答えが得られそうな状況ではないと悟ったようだ。SoundCloud社員の一部はTechCrunchに対し、共同ファウンダーのAlex LjungとEric Wahlforssは「レイオフはコストを減らすことで第4四半期まで時間を稼ぐためだった」と告白したと述べた。しかし第4四半期までわずか50日しかない。

SoundCloudのCEOがブログでSoundCloud is here to stay.という記事を公開。50日以内にサービスが停止するようなことはなく、アップロードされた音楽は守られると書いている。
